2. Data Collection

You will be collecting data in the following areas:

(A) Along Singapore River, from Coleman Bridge to Anderson Bridge

• With the aid of GoogleMap, sketch a scaled mapping of Singapore River from Coleman Bridge to Anderson Bridge
• Document a panoramic view of Singapore River on at least one of the bridges along the river.
• Identify and indicate on your map 3-5 landmarks (historical buildings) along the stretch of river. 
• Observe the sights and sounds of the present day Singapore River. Based on your observation, make inferences to explain the activities that are carried out along the river during the early days and the present day.
• Using photographic evidences, do you think the shape course of Singapore River will change in the future? Justify your answers.

(B) Asian Civilisations Museum

• From the exhibition, identify one civilisation and find out how people in the civilisation deal with their constraints
• In your group, decide on a gallery that you wish to concentrate on: China, India or Southeast Asia.
• From the chosen gallery,
• Find out how their responses contribute to the social, cultural and technological changes that occured in Asia?
• Select THREE artefacts
• Record information of each identified artefact
• What is the artefact? The name.
• Photograph of the artefact
• What is the function of this artefact?
• Identify and describe 3 differences to its modern day version.

(C) Others

• Take group photos (with all members) at the following locations (where the location could be easily identified through the photo). These photographs are to be included in the blog.
• Where you start and end your journey along Singapore River Trail
• Outside the Civilisation Museum
• Be creative; however, remember, do NOT be engaged in any dangerous act. SAFETY FIRST.

1. Plan and Prepare (est. 30 minutes)

• Check out the locations (using GoogleMap):
  • Coleman Bridge in New Bridge Road and Anderson Bridge, near Asian Civilisations Museum
  • Asian Civilisations Museum (http://www.acm.org.sg/) 
• Plan the route with your group members
  • Where is your meeting point (Are you meeting at any MRT station)? Which is the starting point?How far is your meeting point from the starting point? How do you move from the meeting point to the starting point?
  • You will have to walk long the river, from Coleman Bridge to Anderson Bridge. 
• Identify 3 to 5 locations/ landmarks that you could find along the way that you think are significant or of interest to your target audience.
• Things to bring along...
  • Devices that you need to capture data (e.g. digital camera, handphone)
  • Writing materials (including sheets of papers) to document your course as you move from Coleman Bridge to Anderson Bridge
  • An umbrella with you (just in case it rains, since you are outdoor)
  • Enough money to move around and your EZ-link card for travelling
  • Umbrella for wet weather (in case it rains) as you are carrying with you electronic/ digital devices
  • Do not bring too bulky stuff, especially if it rains.
• Remember
  • Practise Courtesy - Ask permission politely before you take pictures and video clips (e.g. of people, shop displays) or interview people. Identify yourself and inform them that you are doing data collection for an eLearning task.
    • Observe guidelines in places like Museums - check out for signs where photographs are allowed (Is flash NOT allowed?). If not sure, always check with the guards inside the musuem.
  • Safety First - Do not put yourself in any dangerous situations. Do not go to remote places. Watch for traffic when crossing the road, etc
  • Be in your best behaviour - Be gracious, considerate and polite

The Information Blog should consist of the following:

1. A SCALED-MAP of the course of Singapore River from Coleman Bridge (New Bridge Road) to Anderson Bridge (Asian Civilisation Museum).
• The map should have the identified historical buildings/ landmarks marked.
2. Adequate information on the "Change and Continuity" in the river system/ river profile and ancient civilisation. This would be illustrated through your journey
• along Singapore River, from Coleman Bridge to Anderson Bridge
• at the Asian Civilisations Museum
 
• Your documentation and findings in the blog should include the following:
1. Based on your observation along the Singapore River and inferences, explain the activities that are carried out along the river during the early days and present days
2. Using photographic evidences, do you think the shape course of Singapore River will change in the future? Justify your answers.
3. Based on your findings in the Asian Civilisations Museum,
1. identify one civilisation that you would discuss how people in the civilisation deal with their constraints and how their responses contribue to the social, cultural and technological changes that occured in Asia
2. Select THREE artefacts to learn how they had evolved to today's modern version.
3. To help you present the information, you should...
• take pictures of relevant locations/ landmarks/ view/ artefacts and use them as part of your illustration on the blog
• take video clips as part of the illustration (e.g. activities happening)
4. Include appropriate and useful hyperlinks where appropriate (e.g. to learn more about a specific landmark).
5. As your trail covers a selected region along the Singapore River, it would be appropriate to include visual representation like a GoogleMap embedded in the blog to provide an overview of the areas you have visited.
• Insert appropriate photographs/ video clips/ captions would be useful.
6. Organise the information in a manner that is user-friendly.
1. Navigation should be easy.
2. Apart from the standard posts that you could put up in the blog, you may also make use of the "Pages" feature in the blog where you could include up to 10 individual pages for some "exclusive" reports of your trail/visit.

On top of the above, create a Page in the blog where you discuss between 150 to 200 words your group's experience in accomplishing this task. It should include the following:

• What we enjoyed most when working on this task
• What were some challenges we faced? 
• This could be difficulities faced during the trail/visit; you could also talk about the group working dynamics of the group or any encounters
• Describe ONE area that you think your group could do better if given an opportunity to do it again.
